Cybernetics Research

Research towards Cybenetics. In my narrative there are two primary ways that implement cybernetics, Warfare (hacking etc) and Prosthesis (replacement hands for injury and or for military upgrade) Warfare: http://kavkazcenter.com/eng/content/2010/11/17/12851.shtml http://reason.com/archives/1991/04/01/cybernetic-war http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR780.html US Cybercommand Prosthesis: http://io9.com/this-cybernetic-hand-is-the-first-to-give-amputees-a-se-1516032204 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suwZ5D9bk0M

Link to Warhammer 40,000k Galaxy map interactive website. This is exactly in line for what I want as the outcome for my BA8, however I will focusing on galaxy map with areas that can be clicked on related to each of the six factions I have designed for my project which will then slide through a collection of final pieces related to the chosen factions, such as ship design, environments and narrative illustrations of key events in the narratives history (Major battles etc)

Genetic Egineering

Genetic Engineering plays a key part in my narrative, since almost all colonists who were sent out by Earth to colonize were altered and adapted to survive better on their chosen destinations. However what we can do today with genetic engineering is somewhat questionable as to if I can apply it to the future and to altering humans with ethics aside.

Merging Documents

Due to the how directly my research is influencing my project and for the sake of time I have decided to merge my Research and Design Document into a single piece which is still split into two sections (Research and Design) but so I can easily refer back to either side I also believe this have the same effect on those who view it. However due to how I've layed out information within both documents it will be easier to start a new document, can copy over existing work as it comes to it, so the document will also flow better as I can state what I am designing then refer it to research material. So using the the original two documents as draft material for the Research and design document I am about to start on.

BBC article on how to create artificial gravity on a space station by the use of rotating section but also the negative effects of it and why we haven't built any stations that implement it. Using this as reference for a piece in my research document about how to implement artificial gravity in my narrative.

Frozen Colony Study

Taking what I learned from the Crysis 3 analysis. I will be painting a concept of colony on an arctic planet using various sources of reference and keeping true to them so that the final outcome is easily relateable to the sources I have used.

Reference Board:

Reference Study

Using Crysis 3 examples in the creation of concept art from reference.
Reference:
 Outcome:
Using the two photos reference as inspiration has allowed for an accurate presentation of grassland area. Even the tank the far right of the first photo has provided substantial information on how the foliage has grown over after it has long been abandoned giving a sense of narrative, the alien mech in the midground highlights a past battle. The city scape in the background adds depth and further context. The soldiers patrolling through the long grass lends heavily to the second piece of reference, giving a sense of scale but also motion through the grass hint that the path they're taking is a regular pathway to their destination. The composition is balanced the alien mech is clearly in the mid ground giving it a larger sense of scale than the abandoned tank in the foreground the barrel framing the advancing soldiers.
Using red to highlight the composition, which is split into a balanced six pieces. The blue highlighting the focal points which are distributed amongst the composition in a way that does not crowd the painting. In the distance a wrecked helicopter and another tank, adding further depth and narrative. Overall this environmental piece creates a immersive scene with active history while not being too busy or distracting. The colour pallet for the environment at the top left also allows for quick explanation of the mood and flow of the piece. Closer objects and character using the warmer colours while the background uses the colder tones, again implying depth and narrative. The background elements being the ruins that retain their own identity separated from the grassland.
The piece uses primarily ambient light onto the grassland but from the midground and background there are light shafts implying overhead obstruction that cannot be scene. Like a forest clearing. And the piece moves in the background this is more obvious as the building obstruct the skyline and continue out of frame. To the left of the alien mech there is a tree framing it but also once again created a natural border and assertion that its full height obscure the mech from direct light so it is highlighted by another light shaft coming down from the canopy. The use of darkness in the foreground expresses that the soldiers have perhaps only just entered this clearing looping to the background from the edges of the painting illustrating the clearing through purely visual language.
